The part worth knowing

You file the claim. We ship it free.

Benchmade runs LifeSharp through their own claim form, and filing it is the one part that has to come from you — it takes a couple of minutes. After that, bring the knife to the counter: we box it and ship it out on our dime. No postage, no hunting for packaging, no trip to the post office. Most people have their knife back within 7–10 business days.

One New York wrinkle: automatic knives

Sending an automatic knife in for service needs an AKOA — an Automatic Knife Opening Agreement, the federal compliance form Benchmade requires. Under the Federal Switchblade Act of 1958 they can’t ship autos across state lines to most individuals, even where owning one is perfectly legal. If yours is an auto, talk to us first and we’ll tell you where you stand.

Common questions

Is LifeSharp really free?

The service is. Benchmade cleans, oils, sharpens and adjusts your knife at no charge, for the life of the knife. What you may pay for is getting it there — see the next question.

Then what is the $20 for?

It’s a Service Kit fee on requests submitted through benchmade.com, covering secure packaging, insured shipping both ways and tracking. It is not a charge for the sharpening. Benchmade waives shipping and material costs when the request comes from an authorized dealer — so ask us at the counter first.

How long does it take?

Most customers get their knife back within 7–10 business days for LifeSharp, or 9–12 business days for warranty service, counted from when they send it in. Shipping distance and how fast you post it back both move that number.

How many knives can I send at once?

Up to five per order. Some restrictions apply — automatic knives in particular, see below.

What about automatic knives?

Autos need an AKOA (Automatic Knife Opening Agreement), a federal compliance form. Because of the Federal Switchblade Act of 1958, Benchmade can’t ship automatics across state lines to most individuals — even where owning one is legal. Talk to us before you send one.

What does the lifetime warranty cover?

Separate from LifeSharp. If a knife fails because of a manufacturing defect, Benchmade repairs or replaces it at no cost. Wear, abuse and normal dulling are what LifeSharp is for.

Can I get it lasermarked?

Yes — custom lasermarking can be added when a knife is submitted for LifeSharp or warranty service.

Where’s my knife?

Benchmade has a Service Status page. Log in with the email you used to submit the request to see when the kit shipped, when they received the knife, when service finished and the return tracking.
